It happens that using client side state makes it impossible to fix, but using server side state doesn't fix it.

Doing significant work to make a feature we're trying to de-emphasize work with a feature the vast majority of people have soundly rejected using doesn't strike me as a terrific investment, but the issue remains tracked.
