Also, I've been wondering about upgrading the TestNG plugin for Maven. That would seem to require a parent version bump across all projects, yet would likely produce artifacts not functionally/materially different. I think it's a good idea to keep current with such libraries as a matter of practice, but I'm not sure how to version it.
