Installer status

After rather too much of a rush I think that the Installers (MSI and non
MSI) are now minimally functionally complete for V3.
There is a huge amount of testing to be done - particularly upgrades from V2
and from V3, and of course we need documentation, both for the end user
("unpack the distribution cd to the bin and say 'ant'. Answer the
questions. Have a nice day") and for meta-users: for instance federations
may want to supply setups to override certain defaults, this should be
possible for both the MSI and the non-msi installs.
There is also some function that I'd like to get in for V3, but which is not
committed:
1) Something in the MSI installer to allow setting of meaningful LDAP
parameterization (the QI installer has this, provide an ActiveDirectory
Domain and it wires in the URL).
2) Scope prompting for the MSI installer (non MSI has this).
3) Non-Backchannel installs (I entered IDP-479 to capture some thoughts)
4) Some cleanup of the MSI build process. This currently leaves detritus in
the idp-installer\src\main\wix folder.
5) Firewall rules for the MSI installer
6) Pre-canned attribute definition for AD users (in addition to 1 above this
is really the definition of a decent source for the computedId).
In addition we all need to work on making sure that the supplied
configuration files make sense for our users, rather than just for our
testing.
Feel free to kick the wheels, also to ask the "And did you remember to add
such and such" questions. This has been a pretty big project and it is
quite likely that I have forgotten something.
Now that I am off the critical path again, I am going to have a large beer
(or two).
