Status of replacement of svn:externals

I suppose at some point we could consider renaming the resources/eclipse/.settings directory in the parent project as well? Again, it seems clearer that way as long as we no longer require it to have that literal name.

Same probably applies to the other "dot" files in the resources/eclipse directory in the parent POM, but they are probably less pressing.
