Marvin commented off-list that he was interested enough in Bloch's talk
that he wanted to find it. Unfortunately the slides from the actual
OSCON 2011 talk "The Evolution of Java: Past, Present, and Future"
weren't posted, and it wasn't recorded.
However, he did give the same talk apparently at the Devoxx conference
later that year. There is a nice recording of it here [1], about an
hour long, with slides side-by-side. Haven't seen this site before, but
it's cool that the talk is actually indexed into chapters so you can
just jump right to part you want. The Serializable part starts at
section marker 9:53.
I also found a written summary [2]. The Serializable part states the
conclusion:
> Conclusion: arguably the worst feature ever added. *Failure*
**
Interestingly, he also gives a Failure to generics and autoboxing.
