Seems like the new nightly jenkins jobs should build and deploy v2
snapshots using java 6, while v3 : java 7.

So I checked jenkins, and the v2 jobs use the "Default" jdk, which
under some conditions is ambiguous[1]. Not desiring ambiguity here, I
think I should specify oracle 6 (and not openjdk) for the v2 snapshot
producing jobs.

Which I can do after confirmation of the v2 : java6 mapping.

By the way, the v3 snapshots are now built against oracle jdk 7.
