CAS uses "SAML" quite loosely, and I hesitated to mention it at all.
CAS leverages a SAML 1.1 assertion to deliver attributes to CAS
clients when a ticket is validated at /samlValidate. The important
point of mentioning "SAML 1.1" is that we intend to implement more
than strict CAS protocol support. We have a heavy investment in
CAS-mediated attribute release and SAML has been the officially
supported means of accomplishing that in CAS for many years. The
relationship of that feature to the SAML 1.1 specification is nominal.
