As it is I found a couple of workarounds but those might not be
possible when changing parts of the application code is out of the
question.

The value of the warning itself should be reconsidered, IMO.
Sure it might help keep away a few questions during install but after
that it seems to just limit deployment scenarios.
The "external hook" things sounds like too much effort to me.
