No, all OpenSAML 2 releases have been cut from the REL_2 branch.  The
error in question probably was present in that branch for a period of
time, you'd have to look at the history.  In OpenSAML 2.3 (if I recall
correctly) a lot of the metadata providers got a significant refactor
in order to move to background reloading and a DHCP lease-like
reloading policy.
