strange expiration-behaviour

Probably not that old.

1.1.3 uses Opensaml version 2.5.1 (July 2001)
1.1.2 used OpenSaml version 2.4.0 (may 2011?)

I would thoroughly recommend moving up to 1.1.3 - a lot of metadata refresh issues were fixed in that release (mostly by upgrading
the OpenSAML).
