Summary of where I think we are on this one:

* The maven-assembly-plugin stanza is now unused, and can be removed from the release profile.
* The maven-compile-plugin settings should be moved to the default profile. We should also reconsider whether debug should be enabled (I’m inclined to leave it be)
* We should delete the maven-dependency-plugin stanza.
* We will be left with maven-javadoc-plugin and maven-source-plugin, which seems correct.

I’ll action this in a couple of days. I’d like it to be out of the way well before 5.0.
