Indeed, -Dlogback.configurationFile should be something that might forcibly set up logback initially with the same settings as it eventually uses when we manually configure it internally.

I would try that and see what happens.

I would not have expected logback to default to DEBUG, so that’s unexpected and sounds more like something we may need to address. We might not have any real option but to stick the file we removed back in.

The thing that makes Jetty less chatty is likely not Jetty itself but the fact that we tend to use logback with Jetty itself, so we forcibly configure logback already with different defaults than DEBUG. Tomcat of course could do the same but would require extra set up.
