Looks like hibernate-core is the only contentious one left. We ship this artifact, so it’s important.

* The 5.4 series is EOL. There is a later version (5.4.33) we could update to if we want to be hyper-conservative and feel having an EOL component is acceptable.
* The 5.5 series that replaced 5.4 is also EOL.
* The 5.6 series is “stable” and currently at 5.6.14. It’s the most obvious choice of something to update to, but of course it might be disruptive.
* The 6.0 series is also “stable” but clearly out of scope. We’d be using that for the main branch if we hadn’t removed hibernate from the distribution entirely.

I am going to try updating to 5.6.14. If that doesn’t work, I will back off to 5.4.33 and we can reconsider.
