I reread some code. An important note is that if you install a plugin it will always uninstall the old version. This includes installing something which is the same version and identifies itself as the same pluginId (even if the actual plugin is GraalVM based rather than JDK based.

So if we decide that we have made the wrong choice we can redirect the global property file to the right choice and people can reinstall (this assuming I add the --InstallThisId change were are talking about in IDP-1854 ( https://shibboleth.atlassian.net/browse/IDP-1854 ) Open ).

Equally if someone has an overweening desire to use the version we are not currently recommending then it all works - at the cost of them having to force the update to the version they wany.

If the languages divers then we just have to split the plugins and end of life the old generic nashorn plugin.
