Modulo Peter's point that you're providing no information about the platform, upgrading on non-Windows is dependent on how you installed it, and upgrading on Windows is a giant pain until you're on 2.5+ (and there is no reason whatsoever to go to 2.5, it's unsupported) and then once you're on the supported version upgrades are a simple MSI install and restart.
