The target contains the actual .jar file (shibboleth-idp-delegation-1.0.jar - I typed the wrong filename yesterday) *and* a zip/tar.gz file! This is why I was confused. So when I unpack the tar.gz file, *there* is the elusive lib directory, containing both the actual extension jar and another supporting one. Ah. So now we are all on the same page! And now the instructions from step 1 of the readme file make perfect sense.

I think having the other directories created in the target directory lead me down the proverbial garden path, because I had the jar file ready to go, so I was looking there for a lib directory. But the files were mostly classes, so didn't look right... blah blah blah. Ordinarily, if I see an archive-format file, I think 'the stuff is in here.'

Oh well. Back on track now. Thank you for your extended help. I'm off to try it all out!

best,

Karla B

On Mon, Apr 16, 2012 at 5:26 PM, Brent Putman <putmanb@georgetown.edu> wrote:

IIRC correctly, the actual extension jar shouldn't have "-bin" in the
name. Don't confuse it with the bin zip/tar.gz archive that the Maven
build will create in /target. You want the raw jar file, not a
distribution archive. Actually, after you build the extension, you need
to unpack the zip/tar.gz extension archive in order to get what you need
to install. Don't forget about the extension dependencies which will be
in the unpacked extensions /lib directory. I think this one has at
least 1 jar dependency, perhaps more.

I don't think we've ever provided an "official" binary build of the
extension. It wasn't really intended that people build from source,
hence the lack of Maven build instructions. But this project never
really got to the point of a "release", given where things got left off
with the intended initial deployer.
