If what you care about is the log activity you can always just suppress the error from showing up in a particular log in all sorts of ways logback provides.

It would be far worse if the bot or bug fed requests in that would actually trigger real work.

Sounds like Jetty ought to accept that rewrite contribution, but we would potentially include it in our Jetty plugin if they don't.
