Xmlsectool 4: looking for testers

With the end of life of v4 of the Shibboleth Identity Provider and the release of v0.10 of the Metadata Aggregator, the only remaining Shibboleth product on the Java 11 product platform[1] is xmlsectool v3.
In order to align xmlsectool with the current Java 17 product platform used by all other current Shibboleth products, we’ll be releasing a new version of xmlsectool rebased on that platform. Once xmlsectool v4 is released, xmlsectool v3 will become unsupported to allow us to redirect our support and testing resources at future versions of Java.
The new xmlsectool v4 is expected to have only two significant changes:
- Require at least Java 17 to run (Java 21 also supported, probably along with Java 25 later this year).
- Remove previously deprecated command-line options.
If you’re using xmlsectool v3 and are not seeing any deprecation warnings, and if you can run at least Java 17, this should be a drop-in replacement. Nevertheless, I’d like to ask anyone able to help testing xmlsectool v4 to contact me so that we can validate that belief before we cut the final release. This won’t be a formal beta release, given the relatively small number of users of the product, and as such the testing period will be relatively short.
Thanks,
— Ian
