How to externalize a Shibboleth IdP HTTP session

Hi,
Is there a way to store Shibboleth IdP HTTP session information externally (Redis, Memcached, MySQL, etc.)?

Also, is it possible to achieve this with Jetty or Tomcat functionality, even if it is not a Shibboleth IdP function?
