IdP v4.3.1 - Resolver script access to SP metadata EntityAttributes

Ok so I have made a new bean in global.xml.

    <bean id="entityAttribute.tag1" class="net.shibboleth.idp.saml.profile.config.StringConfigurationLookupStrategy"
        p:propertyName="urn:mace:upenn.edu:penn:shib:idp:tag1"
        p:explicitPropertyName="true"
        p:enableCaching="true"/>

I've started making a new <AttributeDefinition> with customObjectRef=" entityAttribute.tag1"

How do I access the object value? The docs say:

> custom.apply(input);

But this gives an error in my logs that "input" is not defined. I did log the object itself and it does output the object class is:

Object is: net.shibboleth.idp.saml.profile.config.StringConfigurationLookupStrategy

The full(er) support is in 5.x, but there are pages in both wikis that cover it.
