There's no way to get that message I know given a standard install. The RPMs set all that up and it pretty much can't fail, you'd have to manipulate thiings afterward, use a different user account for shibd to run under that wasn't known when the package was installed, that kind of thing.

You certainly can't run it yourself by hand as yourself, if that's what you're trying to do.

The socket ends up in /var/run/shibboleth. I don't know offhand where the PID ends up when systemd is involved, there may not even be one.
