It is a valid element, so there are "facts not in evidence", added to the fact that the XML you're posting is being altered and is incomplete. Perhaps a hidden character somewhere.

As I said to begin with, there is nothing here requiring an override, so that's a pretty obvious fix. In effect, unless you have to override handlerURL itself, there's almost never a need for an override.
