You cannot get an error from the SP doing that unless you're not actually configuring the web server properly to begin with to understand the virtualization that's occurring. Apache uses ServerName for that. I have no idea what nginx uses.
The SP's settings are not a tool for that, with the exception of IIS, which does not actually support virtualization properly (and is therefore not fit for purpose as a web server to begin with).
The only reason I'm saying anything is for the archive, lest anybody else get the bad idea to change handlerSSL to fix this. That is not the solution.
