FWFW, doing that was the only thing I ever personally saw that would
make a Shibboleth IDP unstable -- at least in the v3 or maybe v4 days.

The consumed metadata involved was probably rather large (including
all of eduGAIN, so some +50MB) and the IDP admin implemented a daily
restart of the Java serlvet container to "fix" the issue.
Once I found out what they were doing the actual fix was a small dose of
If it hurts don't do it™.
