Attribute filter policy conditional on existence of attribute?

I likewise prefer to use the built in methods where possible, and try to
document these sorts of things in the configs, and TBH, I'm not really a
java/javascript programmer, so unless I have a good example I can build off
of, that's typically a last resort for me.

I wouldn't really know where to begin in this case (I'm usually at a loss
to know how to access the attributes and available methods). If someone is
willing to provide such an example, that would be very helpful.
