Peter beat me to it (thank you), and aside from wading into the whole mess, I will just say that it's still a subject of some question whether we will remove the deprecated attribute encoders from V5 or not, but I have started to lean toward "it's time" because I think there needs to be a forcing function to eliminate that mess.

I'd rather move them into a plugin, at least, where we can document some of this better and more precisely.

The real advice I have remains: avoid pairwise identifiers like the plague they are. If you want privacy, avoid the web, because you're never getting any there.
