Ldaptive prune and validate tasks multiple times per second on IdP

I recently upgraded a 3.x IdP to 4.0.1.2.  I had the logs in debug mode while I was upgrading and, in reviewing the logs afterward, I discovered that the Ldaptive prune and validate tasks were running a half dozen or so times per SECOND.  It's not showing any errors and otherwise everything seems to be okay, but this seems excessive to me.  Even after stopping and restarting the IdP, it continues.  Is this normal?
