Changing the value of Expires for the IdP session cookie

Are there any options to change/set the Expires value for the IdP session
cookie (shib_idp_session by default) or is this cookie always a "session
cookie"?

Note, I'm not particularly looking to do this - I'm simply looking for
definitive information in response to a question from a user. As far as I'm
aware, it's always a session cookie and I appreciate that modern browsers
often preserve session cookies across restarts.
