IDP 2.4.3 Authentication Mechanism

Our application is still using the older IDP 2.4.3 at this time, however
I'm trying to determine if there is a way to update the authentication
mechanism for this older version from 'Simple' authentication to another
more secure option.  So far I haven't found any indication on how to make
the change or if other options are supported.

Has anyone run into this and found a way to update the authentication?  If
so, what methods are supported and how do we make the necessary changes?
