My configuration specifies this as c:_0="..." in the same place.

I think you're using a parameter name that's bypassing Spring conversion in some way, and that area of the API has a lot of problems because of legacy mistakes. And I'm sure the example is probably just wrong, and all of them were just copied from V3 for the most part without any further review.
