SP starts up and runs but systemd things it timed out

Did you compile SP with systemd support (--enable-systemd) I think. And
is the binary linked with libsystemd ? (ldd /opt/shibboleth-sp/sbin/shibd)

And does it run from cli with:
/opt/shibboleth-sp/sbin/shibd -f -F
(as shibd user) ?
