My opinion about HTTP proxying is well known (spoilers, I hate it), but for the record since I did write the documentation, the warning about headers isn't about AJP vs. HTTP proxying, but about local use within Apache where it's just incredibly dumb and less safe.

It's more about applications that are improperly written to assume HTTP_ is on the front of the variables they read and avoiding those than anything else.
