SP Metadata error

I have this line in my shibboleth2.xml for a new metadata provider (names changed to protect the guilty).

<MetadataProvider backingFilePath="metadata.xml" reloadInterval="86400" type="XML" url="https://metadata-host.net/"/>

When shibd tries to retrieve the file, I get this error message:


ERROR OpenSAML.MetadataProvider.XML : metadata instance failed manual validation checking: Description must have TextContent.

Indeed, there is a Description element with no content


          <mdui:Description xml:lang="en"/>


The wiki (https://wiki.shibboleth.net/confluence/display/SP3/MetadataProvider) says that the default for the validate attribute is false.

Is there a way to disable this validation? (I am trying with  validate="false", just in case the wiki is wrong about the default.)

I am also asking the metadata provider to fix their metadata, of course. But I have low confidence in them keeping it from happening again.
