are registered with multiple federations and any changes there will
affect hunderds or thousands of institutions.

So please take the time to learn how this process works, e.g. starting
with existing documentation the Shibboleth projects provides for this.

Only after having done that you could start to work this through with
e.g. the UKfederation which is responsible for republishing your above
SP's metadata to eduGAIN (a global infrastructure for scalable
metadata exchange).
