Another  use of an "aggregate" of some sort is if you want to be able to do "smart searching" (e.g. a lookahead search across all entityIDs, and the MDUI info etc., to find entries that match after you have typed a few characters). Why would you want to do that? For a tool like the ShibUI, to help you find the InCommon entity(ies) that you want to target with a metadata filter. (Now you don't really  need the full metadata, you only need an aggregate that has the entityID, some MDUI info, and maybe org info. And that could even be a JSON file and not XML)
