I'm asking why because before today I was not aware of this technology.
Back before 07/2001 I did not know about the LDAP technology, but am the
resident LDAP expert at my school. Additionally back before 10/2012 I
also did not know about Shibboleth/SAML (and still have much to learn).
So to say "If you have to ask (why) I don't think it's for you" is not
at all helpful, especially since you are unaware of our underlying goals
for asking the question.
