JPA schema is somehow set wrong

Just generally speaking, the database that a client will login *to* has nothing to do with the user identity, at least that's my Maria DB experience. The database it should use would be on the end of the JDBC URL.

There's no "schema per user" like with Oracle (...and...nothing else? I've never run into that craziness with other databases).
