If one reads that literally, sounds like (for some unknown reason) the 
OP had it explicitly disabled via -Djsse.enableSNIExtension=false.  
Looks like it defaults to true, since Java 7.  So that would account 
for it "just working" for everybody else who hasn't changed the default.
