The details are in shibd.log, not syslog. Posting logs here is not how to proceed anyway, that's what the issue tracking system is for.

The documentation covers logging configuration and where all the different logs are.

I'm not going to randomly guess what might break the code when you have all the information already. This handler operates by feeding it artifiical inputs. That means any repeatable crash results from specific input that you already have, and haven't attached to a bug report.

So, once again: you need to file a bug, turn up logging, attach all the logs with an input sample that causes the crash. If you do those things, you probably will get the bug fixed in the course of the next few months when there's time available to look at it.
