Release one or the other attribute

How can I accomplish something like this:

if uid = studentGroup
   release attribute1

else 
   release attribute2

We have a mix of students and staff that need to access this SP and the
required student data is under one attribute and staff is under another. I
know how to create the ldap filter to check if they are in one group or the
other and release 1 attribute if they match but how can I replicate the
if/else as above?
