Assistance with IDP upgrade - LDAP source

I'm in the process of upgrading the IDP from v2 to v3.4.3.

The working V2 IDP only had 1 LDAP host service as it's resource for user authentication.

In V2, the only places that I needed to define the LDAP server in were in the files:    attribute-resolver.xml and login.config

It looks like the configuration was drastically changed in v3.

I've read much of the documentation, but am still unable to get the IDP to work using the same LDAP source.
(I'm on the same IDP host, so firewalls are not the issue here)

I modified the ldap.properties file in the  conf dir, but it still doesn't work.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to get this working?

I've inherited support of this from a tech that has since left and have had to teach myself shibboleth on the fly.
The SP upgrade had none of these issues, but the IDP one seems to have had a major overhaul.

I appreciate any direction that you all may provide.
