flows + beans + velocity?

We're starting to migrate from our legacy SSO into Shibboleth (w/o using
the RemoteUser authenticator).  We have a few intercept flows that we have
to implement, and there's stuff I haven't figured out yet.

Are velocity and beans part of the flows pretty standard stuff?
If we tapped some of our java resources to look at this, would it look
familiar?
