basic_string::_S_construct null not valid

We are receiving the following error for an account on shibboleth 3.0.3.

The 'shibd.log' don't seem to show anything unusual -- googling seems to
show that previously was a bug file. however fixed.

Would there be any advice on where to debug further? Thank you.
