Implicit pass through of SP attributes

Good afternoon:

We're using the SP as an authenticating transparent proxy in front of our
app, and we're looking to pass more attributes from the IdP to the proxied
application.  I'm currently under the impression that all attributes must
be explicitly defined in attribute-map.xml, however if possible I'd like to
pass everything through or use a wildcard or similar so that when adding an
attribute we don't need to code it into the SP config.  My motivator is
simplicity, one less knob to turn and less configuration to manage.  We can
tolerate everything being handled as strings.  Is individually defining
every attribute in attribute-map.xml a hard requirement?
