handlerURL returns 404 not found on apache2.4

Your 404 can't be coming from Apache, it's coming from something you're proxying Apache into that needs to be excluded from handling /Shibboleth.sso/* using "ProxyPass !" directives probably.

If Apache was seeing the requests, mod_shib would see (and handle) them.

Aliasing, no idea, that's not part of how this all works and will blow it up I'm sure.
