Hide From Discovery

Greetings Shib Users,
    I hope this is an OK place to ask this question.
    Our IDP asserts "Hide From Discovery", I've read what I can find and it's unclear to me what I'm doing by this assertion.  

    I have an SP that's requesting we disable this.  It looks like I have 3 choices, Hide from discovery,  REFEDS Research and Scholarship Support, or REFEDS SIRTFI.
    I work for a University so I would think we'd comply with REFEDS.  Am I right?
    Anything anyone can tell me about this would help.
