In those old threads it is being claimed that the SDK costs $$$ and does nothing you'd need, as feeding in REMOTE_USER via Shib/httpd just works (if configured to look for it), AFAIR.
So I'd ignore the SDK and custom development and plugins and all that and just read the threads I referenced.
