The general approach with filtering is a work in progress (we went around recently on the question of how to control all the different response channels) and probably is going to morph between the add-on and whatever ends up in core, but I can't speak to the specifics.

I know they're monitoring dev more than users, so if they don't see this, I'd probably repost there.
