Recent experience with Power DMS integration?

Our health services organization has requested that we integrate Power DMS into our central authentication. The only reference I could find to using it with shibboleth was:

http://shibboleth.1660669.n2.nabble.com/PowerDMS-integration-td7625924.html

Evidently since then they have implemented support for SAML:

https://success.powerdms.com/success/s/article/Configuring-SAML-for-PowerDMS?language=en_US

But to describe it as "poor" would be an understatement 8-/.

I suppose I can concoct some metadata from the provided entity id and assertion consumer endpoint, but I'm not clear on exactly what they're looking for regarding the "Sign In URL". There is a checkbox to enable idp initiated authentication, although it's not clear what it does if that's not checked, and what URL to give them in either case.

There is also no mention of required attributes, so it seems even if this was configured as instructed and authentication was successful, the application would know somebody logged in, but have no idea who?
