TestShib Update

TestShib users,

Kevin has been able to chip in some more time and energy and enthusiasm
recently.

The running instance is not completing SSH handshakes despite a restart,
and all I can think of is something corrupted due to a hardware hiccup
while I was thrashing the disk as part of metadata quarantine.

Along with a team from our hosting provider(also working for gratitude,
have relayed yours), we're going to bring an image up from backup.

Presuming that goes well, getting back to a usable service won't take long,
and restoring as much metadata as possible won't take long either. I have
some of the day to allocate to that.

We're keenly aware of the value TestShib is providing online identity writ
large(way more than 2000 entities a month, many production-oriented, many
from very large organizations), so letting the service sunset or degrade is
just not an option. We ourselves will support it to the extent we can
handle it.

To increase what can be handled, we're going to look very seriously at some
form of light donation to keep it running. We'll also examine who has been
working on what and documenting more of the extensive changes Kevin made,
which have become more stable.

Sincere thanks for your patronage, and I'll keep this list updated.
Nate.
